This Hornby Model is a fine example of the Caledonian Railways 264 and 611 classes. These were 0-4-0 Saddle Tank Locomotives designed by Dugal Drummond and built by Neilson & Co. in 1885.
These small locos remained in long service under the LMS (who designated all Neilson saddle locomotives as Class 0F) and British Railways, the last of the class not being withdrawn until 1962. The 0F class, sometimes referred to by the generic term "pugs", were often used as shunters in the area around Glasgow in Scotland, often running with home-made tenders to increase their small coal capacity.
Whilst in service for the Caledonian Railway these wonderful little locos were often used to pull mixed goods & passenger trains – often pulling 4-wheel coaches and open wagons across the countryside. Unfortunately none of the various 0F class locomotives have survived into preservation.
